Wood Watercraft

We are a small family business located on the beautiful Chippewa River in Central
Michigan. We are dedicated to quality construction with emphasis on customer
satisfaction and service. Each boat is constructed with the desires and the needs of
customer in mind. Each of our watercraft is as unique as the person we build it for.
We use a variety of woods: cedar, oak, ash, basswood, maple, mahogany, sitka
spruce, walnut, cherry and marine plywood. We can make a watercraft using your
strip, marquetry, and inlay patterns, or we can design one just for you. When
completed, your boat will be as pleasing to the eye as it will be to operate.
Wood is unexcelled for its stiffness, strength, buoyancy and striking appearance.
The building process begins by gluing narrow strips together which gives the hull its
shape. The strips are then sanded and covered with fiberglass cloth and epoxy
resin on the inside and the outside. The fiberglass cloth and resin provide added
strength, eliminating the need for braces and ribs. The watercraft is then trimmed
out with gunwales, seats, decks and interior trim. The final step is finishing with
several coats of marine varnish and oil. The end result is a fiberglass boat with a
wood core. The wood/epoxy method of construction maintains the intrinsic beauty
of the wood and eliminates the constant upkeep associated with the traditional wood
watercraft.
The final price of the watercraft will depend on the options and the woods selected.
A picture may be worth a thousand words, but pictures do not do justice to any of
these beautiful and functional watercraft.
